About Remade
One street a week, and whether it worked.
Remade tells the story of one real place each week that was made greener, more walkable, safer or less car-dependent. We show it before and after, and we bring the numbers: what it cost, how long it took, and what changed.
Who it's for
Planners, designers, engineers, advocates, councillors, and anyone who has stood on a busy road and wondered whether it could be different. We write for the people who make transformations happen, so we include the parts other coverage skips: budgets, timelines, who did the work, and what went wrong.
How we pick a story
- Finished in the last three years, or with new results.
- A clear before and after.
- At least one measured result or a public budget. A story with no results goes in the short items instead.
- A spread of countries, sizes and types: streets, squares, school streets, superblocks, riverfronts, car parks turned into parks.
How we check facts
Every number, date and claim links to the page it came from, ideally an official one: city reports, peer-reviewed studies, transport authority data. We label estimates and vendor claims as such. If two sources disagree, we say so or leave the figure out. If cost or results aren't public, we say that plainly instead of guessing.
Photos and drawings
We use licensed photos and credit the city, design firm and photographer every time. We never use Street View screenshots. Our cross-sections are our own drawings, based on published plans and labelled as illustrative. Any render of an unbuilt idea carries a yellow Concept, not built tag.
